Put Another Face on the Moon

PUT ANOTHER FACE ON THE MOON

Words by David M. Murray ©2024

Don’t like it when you’re gone
Gone gone
Feels like I’m outta tune
Take two aspirin
Call me in the morning
Put another face on the moon

Zoom’s good
So is Skype
But so’s a warm body in tune
Can’t feel your touch
Caress your hair
So put another face on the moon

Check the batteries in the clock
Spent the weekend in my room
Breath is shallow
Heartbeat’s slow
Put another face on the moon

Don’t like it when you’re gone
Gone gone
Feels like I’m outta tune
Take two aspirin
Call me in the morning
Put another face on the moon

Ate a sandwich
Only half
Got a wellness check at noon
Didn’t shave
Or comb my hair
Put another face on the moon

Check the batteries one more time
Read the obituary and the news
Got more depressed than I
Was before
Put another face on the moon

Don’t like it when you’re gone
Gone gone
Feels like I’m outta tune
Take two aspirin
Call me in the morning
Put another face on the moon

Flight’s on time
Who woulda thought
Got a big bouquet of balloons
Smiling ear-to-ear
Just like the man in the moon
Put another face on the moon
